Small-Polyped Stony Corals
A Poor Categorization, per Borneman
I'm pretty new to the whole SPS thing. Having had a 75G tank with 96W power compact lighting, my options were limited. A montipora capricornis and digitata were the only two I had. The digitata was a dark brown, while the monti cap was a pale green. My, how those corals have changed under Metal Halide lighting. In addition I've picked up a few more frags along the way...
| Acropora | |
| Acropora Millepora Purple/Blue Millie | |
| A fellow hobbiest had tank issues and needed me to hold on to some stuff. This came in as a drab brown/green acro frag. I placed it near the top of my tank and over time it became more puple and eventually this great deep Purple/Blue color. It's also significantly branched out since the singular stalk it started as. | |

| Acropora tortuosa Purple/Green Tort | |
| No picture | This tort is purple at the tips fading to a brownish interior that flouresces green under actinic lighting. |

|
| Acropora formosa Light Blue Staghorn | |
| Picked this up at a Tank Tour. It's a nicely sized frag of a staghorn, and has managed to attach to the rock it's lying on. Growth so far is slow, but steady and from both ends. | |

|
| Acropora tortuosa Oregon Blue Tort | |
| Also picked this up at the same tank tour as the stag above. Grows slower than dirt and it'll be a long, long time before this little frag is anything to speak of. | |

|
| Pocillipora | |
| Pocillopora damicornis Pink Cauliflower Coral | |
| Picked this up from a fellow reefer along with a bunch of other frags randomly. I've only had it for a little while, but it's attached well and started to grow. | |

| Montipora | |
| Montipora sp. Plating Montipora | |
| A fellow hobbiest had tank issues and needed me to hold on to some stuff. This orange cap was just a wee frag until I wedged it into a rock and allowed it to attach. It's since started to spread on the rock and develop some texture (it sits directly in front of a tunze). Still pretty small though. There was a great deal of falling and picking up of this frag early on that hindered its growth. | |

| Montipora sp. Plating Montipora | |
| My wife won this coral at a WAMAS social. She also managed to win a gift certificate that same night. Regardless, this coral sits prominently in the center of the tank and has grabbed on to the rocks in its vicinity. | |

| Montipora capricornis Monti Cap | |
| My parents bought me a very small frag of this monti cap from the fish store for my birthday one year. It did well in my 75G tank and is doing amazingly better in my 180 under MH lighting. It has grown significantly and the shard it left behind on the original rock has already exceeded the size of the original frag. I think this guy's due for a fragging soon. | |

| Montipora digitata Yellow Digi | |
| My parents bought me a very small frag of this montipora digitata for my birthday one year. Unfortunately, two years later (after slow growth under power compacts) it started to suffer white line disease. Since it hadn't branched much, I was only able to salvage a small piece. That piece is now mounted on a plug and is returned to frag state. | |

|
| Montipora sp. Purple Monti | |
| This largely encrusing montirpora spread well over a rock in my 75G tank but maintained a tan/brown color. In my 180G tank, it has developed into a deep purple color and has started branching more readily. Not sure yet what will come of this coral. | |

|
| Seriatopora | |
| Seriatopora hystrix Pink Birdsnest | |
| A fellow hobbiest had tank issues and needed me to hold on to some stuff. This started off as just a ball with a singular 1.5" prong branched after the 1st inch. It has since opened up and started to spread significantly. | |

|
| Stylophora | |
| Stylophora pistillata Green Stylo | |
| One of my oldest SPS corals, this little guy has significantly branched out and is now providing shade to my caulastrea and orange Montipora capricornis. Definitely in need of a fragging. | |

| The following SPS corals have left the building. | |
| Acropora yongei Green Bali Slimer | |
| A frag in the set of SPS corals I picked up from a fellow reefer. I was given two frags and attached them both to the same plug. They then grew in opposite directions and UP. Alas, once the frag reached critical mass I moved it onto a rock and then didn't realize a few weeks later that it had fallen off. Found it a week after that buried in sand and quite bleached. It did not recover, even remaining in the tank. | |

|
| Acropora millepora Turquoise Millie | |
| Got this on the same day as the pink pocillipora. Also has attached well and is growing steadily. | |
| August 2006 - Sept. 2, 2007 Qty 1; from Ghazanfar Ghori |
This coral has been through a lot of ups and downs, I thought I had lost it for a while, but it recovered. Then it grew into a small colony... but was injured in several spots for some unknown reason. Algae took to those injuries and several months later, it RTNed one night. Maybe it got tired of fighting? I should have fragged off the good parts I suppose. |
