Fish Arrivals and Departures

Since Autumn, 2006

I am way to lazy to keep this page up to date. Well, really I'm way too lazy in general. It's a wonder I have a tank that survives. Regardless, I will do my best to keep a list of fish here that I have on hand or notes about fish I've had.

Sohal Tang
Acanthurus sohal
Very cool Tang. Had immediate altercations with the yellow resulting in some gouges and injuries on both sides initially. Getting along fine now, though.
Arrived October 15, 2006
Qty 1; from That Fish Place
Note: I've actually gotten two of these. The first died after my power went out and I ran a quarantine tank off a generator without any line conditioning. Apparently that was a bad idea. The main tank had a grounding probe and was fine. I should have just left him be. The second guy's doing quite well though as of 8/9/2008.

Ocellaris Clownfish
Amphiprion ocellaris
This mated pair was purchased from BRK after having been removed from another aquarium. It took them about a month to find and make friends with my LTA, but they did and now they're quite smitten.
Arrived July 28, 2006
Qty 2; from Blue Ribbon Koi
Woah! Discovered on 3/15/2007 that the female is PREGNANT. Took some pictures as soon as I could: [ 1 2 3 ]. As of 6/10/2007, I didn't notice any eggs and she's not fat anymore... *shrug*

Blue Neon Goby
Elacatinus oceanops
With so many tangs in the tank, I figured it would be a good idea to invest in some cleaners. Thus the cleaner goby. Hard to get a good picture of this tiny little guy.
Arrived August 4, 2006
Qty 1; from Blue Ribbon Koi
Note: The original passed away at one point, got a new one from That Pet Place in May of 2008. As of 8/9/2008 he's still doing well.

Yellow Tang
Zebrasoma flavescens
Rescued this Yellow Tang from a tank that had been left behind by someone's ex. She posted on WAMAS that her ex had vacated and left behind his tank and death was ensuing -- a call for help. Has turned out to be a pretty aggressive and territorial fish, but easy to recgonize and a popular favorite.
Arrived July 22, 2006
Qty 1; from 92° murky water
Note: suffered serious gouges to body when Sohal was introduced on October 15th, healed.

Unicorn Tang
Naso brevirostris
This fish will eventually be too big for this tank. As a juvenile, though, (no horn yet) he's a great citizen, active, flashy, and clearly photogenic. Known as the "spotted" unicornfish, he can quickly turn a dark blue with light blue speckles.
Arrived July 9, 2006
Qty 1; from That Fish Place

Six Line Wrasse
Pseudocheilinus hexataenia
I purchased this fish when I discovered planaria in my tank. It was said that there was a chance the six line would eat it. This turned out to not be true for my specimen, but he's been a fun addition to the tank regardless and has not, as of yet, been aggressive in any way.
Arrived August 2005
Qty 1; from The Reef Tank
The following fish have left the building.
Male Lyretail Anthia
Pseudanthias squampinnis
Amazingly beautiful fish, irridescent eyes and all that. Finnicky eater at first, but eventually started eating with some PE Mysis. The harem followed suit.
Arrived August 2006
Qty 1; from LiveAquaria
Note (8/9/2008): Had mass disappearance of Anthias starting with the male and finishing with the last female. It's unfortunate... I'd like to pick up a school of these again later when I have more time.

Female Lyretail Anthia
Pseudanthias squampinnis
My wife says they look too much like goldfish, but they occupy the tank well and make for a nicely dynamic environment. From time to time they get chased around by the male, but that's par for the course.
Arrived August 2006
Qty 5; from LiveAquaria
Note: One disappeared in September, down to Qty 4. Follow on from 8/9/2008; they're all gone now due to mass die-off mentioned in male anthia note.

Citron Goby
Gobiodon citrinus
This "percher" was greatly desired by my wife. So much so that she wouldn't let me leave the store without him.
March 13, 2007-sometime
Qty 1; from That Fish Place
Note: I have yet to see this fish eat as of 6/10/2007. This bodes poorly for the long term. Will I ever learn to quarantine? ... Here we are in 2008, this fish is long gone.

Yellow Watchman Goby
Cryptocentrus cinctus
This fish has been with me for a very long time indeed. I honestly don't remember when exactly he was introduced to my aquarium, but I think when I purchased him, he was yellow. Not so, any more. Under duress he becomes striped white and green. Either way, a very cool fish to watch -- but often in hiding.
Arrived 2003
Qty 1; from The Reef Tank
Note: I haven't seen this guy lately (8/9/2008)... I fear he's gone.

Kole Tang
Ctenochaetus strigosus
Great algae grazer and all around neat looking fish with striking yellow eyes and an unassuming dark-colored body. Very timid at the store (always hiding) and also timid in the tank at home. Did he ever eat?
August 6 2006 - September 2006
Qty 1; from Blue Ribbon Koi
Note: Developed and eventually succumbed to Ich. Wasn't able to remove for quarantine.

Sohal Tang
Acanthurus sohal
Very cool Tang. Said to be aggressive but exhibited no hostility, instead was dominated by the Unicorn and Yellow since it was added later, but was able to fend for itself.
August 6 2006 - September 4 2006
Qty 1; from Blue Ribbon Koi

Blue Gudgeon Lyretail Dartfish
Ptereleotris hanae
Really neat little fish, my wife fell in love with the "two little heads" at the store and had to bring them home. Well, a week later when we decided we wanted to spend the money. Took quite a while to get them to eat, but eventually they became happy and amusing inhabitants.
September 2006 - April 2007
Qty 2; from Wallys
Note: During a long algae battle, I failed to notice that the dartfish weren't getting enough food (they typically came out after the food was gone) and by the time I noticed they were thin, they were FAR too thin. They both perished the same week.
